Start-up Contest & Idea Festival in Cambodia

KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) Phnom Penh would like to invite you to participate in the Idea Festival in Cambodia to support business start-ups to solve social problems as well as to contribute to economic development by creating job opportunities. We are looking forward to your participation.

 

■ Contest Topics

• Topic A

Any idea of business model with new technology at low cost that can improve cambodian for the better life including energy, hygiene, and the necessities

ex. Water supply system using rainwater

Finishing materials used by-product of farming, etc.

• Topic B

Any idea of business model to make profits through solving social problems acros cambodia

ex. Selling hand-made fabric that is made by traditional techniques

Creating profit and job opportunities by training the disabled to produce handicraft

• Topic C

Any idea of business model that can solve social problems as doing business activities of commercial enterprises simultaneously

ex. Hand-washing campaign to reduce disease rate and provide soaps

Providing agricultural machinery to increase income in rural area and enhancing school attendance for students

 

■ Contest Period

23 May, 2013 ~ 23 June, 2013  (Selection Date : 10 July, 2013)

 

■ Selection Criteria

• Sustainability, profitability, and effectiveness of social value

• Two-step evaluation by the selected committee composed of experts

• After document screening (1 July), presentation and final selection of business model on 10 July

■ Benefits

• Applicants for Topic A

Participation(application of Business plan) in “The 4th Appropriate Technology Contest for Social Enterprise” hosted by KOTRA, SK Happiness Foundation and Good Neighbors in Korea

* Prize details: First Prize 5,000,000 KRW (about $4,480), Second Prize 3,000,000 KRW (about $2,690), Third Prize 2,000,000 KRW (about $1,790), Technology Prize 1,000,000 KRW (about $890)

• All Applicants (Topic A, B, C)

- Select excellent business model (5 teams or less)

- Support training for entrepreneurship

- Initial Benefits : Feasibility study provided for the first 6 months including manpower, office space, allowance, etc. (Manpower will be provided from existing pool in KOTRA Phnom Penh)

- Allowance would be the least expense for labor charge and feasibility study (Actual price need to be discussed)

• Extra Benefits

- For around 3 teams that pass through the feasibility study, for 1 year

- Enterprise establishment and business development including office space and manpower

- Support find product dealers or services buyer

- Business start-up fund provided based on additional evaluation

■ Requirements

- 1 copy of application form, 1 copy of proposal of idea or business plan (Korean, English, Khmer all available)

- Documents for submission

- Enterprises that will be established through this contest shall use 20 percent of their profits for social contribution (specific plan need to be discussed later)
